Chanukah celebration returning to Cunningham Park for fifth year

The fifth annual Light Up The Night, a menorah lighting ceremony in honor of Chanukah, will be held on Sunday, Dec. 10, in Cunningham Park. 

Organizers of the event, which includes the Bukharian Jewish Community Center and Queens Jewish Community Council, expect over 2,000 people to attend.

This year, Chanukah will begin on Thursday, Dec. 7 and end on Friday, Dec. 15. 

Israeli singer Gad Elbaz will deliver a live performance at the event. And for the first time, the lighting ceremony will feature a fireworks display. There will also be grand prizes such as a PlayStation 5 console, drone and JBL speaker as well as free donuts. 

The event will begin at 4 p.m. at 196-10 Union Tpke. in Fresh Meadows.

SUV explosion rocks South Ozone Park street, damaging homes and vehicles on Friday morning: FDNY

A quiet residential street in South Ozone Park was rocked by a thunderous explosion on Friday morning after an SUV filled with dangerous construction materials detonated in front of 131-16 133 St. five blocks west of the Van Wyck Expressway.

The massive blast damaged five homes and brought down Con Edison power lines on the block and obliterated the vehicle that belonged to a plumber who lives there. No one was injured in the blast but several residents of the block were near the vehicle just before it exploded, officials said..
