Two 7-Story Apartment Buildings Planned for Astoria

Permits have been filed for two large apartments buildings that are planned to go up in Astoria.

Plans were filed Oct. 15 for a seven-story mixed-use building at 26-41 3rd St. that would include 58 apartments, approximately 15,000 square feet of commercial space and 14,500 square feet for community facilities.

The plans call for ground floor retail and a house of worship on the second floor– with the upper floors for residential use.

The property is located on the Hallets Point peninsula.

The building would be 75 feet tall and also contain a cellar and 29 enclosed parking spaces. The owner is listed as Yitzchok Katz, operating under the corporate name of Developing NY State LLC.

Demolition permits have not yet been filed.

Meanwhile, plans were filed Oct. 19 for a seven-story, 64 unit development at 37-24 33rd St., which is on the border of Astoria and Long Island City.

The building would include ground floor commercial space that would be for a production studio, according to the plans.

The building, which would also be 75 feet tall, is owned by George Xu of 33rd Street Ventures LLC. The architect is listed as Raymond Chan Architect.

Demolition permits were filed on Jan. 15 to demolish a one-story commercial building on the site.

Masked gunman robs Total Wireless store in Flushing, steals $6K: NYPD

Police from the 109th Precinct in Flushing are looking for a masked gunman who pulled off an armed robbery at a cell phone store on the night of Monday, May 5.

The suspect entered the Total Wireless shop located in the old Hua Cheng Restaurant at 41-19 Kissena Blvd., across the street from the Queens Public Library branch, just before 7 p.m. He approached the counter, pulled out a firearm, and threatened the 27-year-old woman who was working the night shift, police said Wednesday.
