Dog Rescued from Jamaica Bay by NYPD, Returned to Owner

A lucky pooch was rescued from the icy waters of the Jamaica Bay Wednesday morning.

Officers with the NYPD Harbor Patrol unit spotted Tinkerbell the pup frantically doggy-paddling and struggling to stay afloat through the bay around 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to the NYPD Special Ops Twitter account.

The officers quickly pulled the dog out of the freezing water and wrapped her up onboard the NYPD boat. They then rushed to a local vet where Tinkerbell was evaluated.

Tinkerbell was found to be in good health and was reunited with her owner less than two hours later at the 100th Precinct in Rockaway Beach, the NYPD wrote on Twitter.

“After failing her physical for the #SCUBA Team, Tinkerbell has been reunited with her owner Jason,” police said. “Tinkerbell is in great health & is looking forward to sleeping all day. Thanks to our Harbor members for making this reunion paw-ssible.”

One of Tink’s owners, Karen Dublin, replied to the tweet to thank the officers for saving her dog.

“We are so grateful,” she wrote next to an image of Tinkerbell curled up asleep. “She is so happy to be home.”

Astoria doctor sentenced to more than two decades in prison for rape and sexual abuse: DA

An Astoria doctor was sentenced to 24 years in prison on Thursday in Queens Supreme Court for raping unconscious acquaintances and sexually abusing hospital patients.

Dr. Zhi Alan Cheng, 35, of Broadway, pleaded guilty on June 30 to four counts of rape in the first degree and three counts of sexual abuse in the first degree in satisfaction of the consolidated indictments against him. He additionally entered an Alford plea to one count of sexual abuse. The defendant — a former gastroenterologist at New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital — recorded the abuse of his unconscious victims with his cell phone in both his Astoria apartment and at the hospital.
