Man Attempts to Rape Woman in Woodhaven at Knifepoint, Good Samaritan Intervenes

Suspect (NYPD)

Jan. 24, 2021 By Christina Santucci

Police credited a passerby with stopping a knifepoint rape of a woman in Woodhaven Friday evening.

The Good Samaritan intervened and scared off the suspect, who authorities said had bitten the woman on her hip during the attack.

The 58-year-old woman had been walking along 92nd Street — on a residential block near 89th Avenue — at 6:30 p.m., when a man pushed her to the ground, climbed on top of her and flashed a knife.

Police said the man covered the woman’s mouth and told her not to scream. He then began pulling down her pants and at that point bit her on the left hip.

A passerby interrupted the attack, and the suspect took off on 92nd Street toward Atlantic Avenue.

The woman was taken in stable condition to Jamaica Hospital, where her bite wound was treated.

Police described her attacker as a man who is about 30 years old with a light complexion, medium build and black hair. He was last seen wearing a black leather jacket, a black shirt, black pants, black shoes and a black backpack, according to the NYPD.

The NYPD released surveillance images of the suspect at the J subway station at 85th Street and Forest Parkway and is asking anyone with information about the attack to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or through the CrimeStoppers website. All calls are strictly confidential, police said.
