Mercedes Driver Shot During Carjacking in Ozone Park Last Month: NYPD

The suspects and 101st Avenue and 97th Street (NYPD and Google Maps)

April 8, 2021 By Michael Dorgan

The driver of a 2016 Mercedes-Benz was shot during a carjacking by two men in Ozone Park last month.

The victim, a 33-year-old man, was driving the vehicle in the early hours of March 27 and had stopped in the vicinity of 103rd Avenue and 97th Street to pick up another man.

The driver had gotten out of the car when the suspects appeared and began firing shots at them. The driver was shot in the right leg and the suspects took off with the car.

The driver was taken to Jamaica Hospital at the time, and police were unable to confirm his condition.

The carjacking took place shortly after one of the victims had been robbed by the two men at a separate location.

The driver had initially been sitting in the passenger seat of the car while they were parked on the corner of 101st Avenue and 97th Street at around 4:20 a.m. The suspects, who were armed, approached the passenger side of the car, reached inside, and took his neck chain and cell phone, police said.

The owner of the Mercedes, who was sitting in the driver’s seat at the time, jumped out of the car and ran down the street to get away from the armed men.

The 33-year-old then leaped into the driver’s seat and sped away from the suspects to the next block where he stopped to pick up the car owner. He had gotten out of the car to let the Mercedes owner retake the driver’s seat when the suspects appeared and began firing.

The Mercedes owner, 28, did not suffer any injuries and his vehicle has yet to be recovered, police said.

Police said the first suspect was wearing a dark-colored jacket and distressed/bleached jeans while the second suspect was wearing dark-colored clothing and a baseball cap.

Police released video footage of the robbery at 101st Avenue and 97th Street.
