A free stand-up comedy show featuring a number of established New York comics will take place in Sunnyside Saturday.

The event, aptly called Sunnyside Comedy, will kick off at 8 p.m. at Sanger Hall, located at 48-20 Skillman Ave., and organizers say that a wide range of acts will be performed.

Among the artists who will participating are Wilfred Padua, winner of the 2019 Boston Comedy Festival, and Maddy Smith, who featured on Nick Gannon’s Wild ‘n Out series on MTV.

Pedro Salinas, who appeared in The Art of Comedy on HBO Max, will also get the audience laughing along with Sam Evans who is known for his musical comedy album Sweet Baby Boy.

The event is being organized by Dwayne Paul Cullen, a Sunnyside resident and local comic.

Cullen, who is originally from Seattle, said he has lived in the neighborhood for around three years and has never seen a comedy gig advertised in the area. He said he wants to bring some high-level comedy and plenty of skits to Sunnyside.

“The event will initially be for one night to test the waters but I am hoping we can host it every month or even every week depending on feedback from the community,” Cullen said.

Cullen said he will emcee the event and will also perform his own sketch to begin the show.

“There will be a lot of great talent on stage who will bring different types of humor. They are some of the funniest comedians in New York.”
