The city launched a new resource guide highlighting New York City’s vibrant Asian cultures and communities like Flushing—for visitors and locals alike.

NYC & Company, the city’s marketing and tourism agency, launched the website and permanent guide called “The Asian Experience in NYC” Wednesday to celebrate the city’s Asian population — the fastest-growing race in NYC — and its various cultures.

The resource site features local neighborhood guides for areas like Flushing, Sunset Park, Chinatown and Koreatown as well as interviews with notable Asian New Yorkers, round-ups of Asian-owned businesses and lists of organizations that support the city’s Asian communities.

It will also include new guides on various Asian cultures in the city. A guide to Malaysian culture has already been published on the site.

The website will be routinely updated with new guides, interviews and videos. NYC & Company will also post special features to the site for holidays like Lunar New Year and for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

Lastly, the new content hub includes information on how to support the Asian community in the five boroughs and beyond.

The Asian community has faced significant challenges during the pandemic. Many Asian businesses, like those in Flushing and Chinatown, were among the first to lose customers when COVID-19 struck. Hate crimes against Asian Americans have also risen nationwide.

The support guide shares links to donate and learn about anti-Asian violence from organizations like Stop Asian Hate, Stop AAPI Hate, Organizations Against Asian Hate and more. It also includes educational resources on ways to stop Asian bias attacks in local communities and while traveling.

The Asian Experience in NYC is the latest resource guide NYC & Company has put together. The agency also has guides on “The Black Experience” and “The Latino Experience in NYC”.

New York City is the second-largest home for Asians in the U.S. The cohort accounts for 14 percent of the city’s population.

“As the second-largest home in the US for the Asian community, we’re pleased to now offer a centralized content hub that provides locals and visitors with resources to explore, celebrate and support the vibrant Asian neighborhoods and communities across the City that are a fundamental piece of New York City’s essence,” said Fred Dixon, President and CEO at NYC & Company.
