A Dollar Tree store was robbed at gunpoint in Sunnyside Sunday, less than 24 hours after a Dollar Store in Middle Village was robbed in the same manner, according to police.

Police say a suspect walked into the Dollar Tree store at 39-09 Queens Blvd. in Sunnyside Sunday at around 4 p.m. and brandished a firearm in front of a 30-year-old male employee.

The suspect then robbed a safe inside the store and fled the scene with around $1,000 cash, according to police.

The suspect is described as a man in his 30’s who weighs around 180 pounds.

On Saturday, a suspect using the same modus operandi held up the Dollar Tree store at 78-02 Metropolitan Ave. in Middle Village at around 9:30 p.m., police said.

The suspect brandished a gun and demanded cash from a 62-year-old male worker at the store before stealing around $1,000 from a register. He then fled the scene on foot, police said.

Police do not know if both incidents are related.

No arrests have been made and no injuries were reported.

“The suspect is described as a man in his 30’s who weighs around 180 pounds”
Well thanks to that description we should have him in cuffs within hours. For gods sake. How tall is he? What does he look like? Is he white, black, Asian, latino; has he tatts? Does he speak with a lilting Irish brogue, a southern drawl, or does he sound like an out and out inner city bad boy? Enquiring minds would like to know. Please investigators let us know before we apprehend every 30- something, 180 pounder and give him a good going over in our overzealous attempt to make a citizens arrest.
