An upscale American-style restaurant on Jackson Avenue in Long Island City will close for good this week after less than two years in business.
Penny Bridge, which has been offering menu items such as burgers, salmon, steak frites and salads since January 2021, will close Friday according to its owner and chef Dan Kluger.
The restaurant is located on the ground floor of The JACX high-rise office building, a 26-story two-tower development at 28-03 Jackson Ave. Penny Bridge was the first business to occupy the space situated on the corner of Jackson Avenue and 42nd Road.
Kluger made the announcement on his Instagram page Friday although he did not specify the exact reason for the closure.
“We announced to the team today that unfortunately we will be closing @pennybridgelic.” Kluger wrote.
“It’s definitely not the outcome we had hoped for but I am so incredibly proud of the restaurant we created.”
A notice was also posted to the company’s Instagram page two days later providing some more insight into the closure.
“Unfortunately, due to circumstances out of our control, we made the very difficult decision to close Penny Bridge,” the post reads.
“We are very proud of the restaurant we opened… during an unusual time and we thank our loyal guests for their support, our tremendous staff for their hard work and dedication, the amazing team at [INC Architecture & Design] who designed the space and every vendor that helped us build, open and operate.”
The post also acknowledged staff working for The JACX and the building’s developer Tishman Speyer.
Penny Bridge has been operating out of a large space known for its industrial-style interior. The restaurant has also provided sidewalk seating on Jackson Avenue.
The restaurant is one of three establishments owned by Kluger, according to his Instagram profile. He operates Loring Place, which offers seasonal American cuisine, and the takeout pizza joint Washington Squares, both of which are located in the Greenwich Village section of Manhattan.
Penny Bridge had a 4.7-star rating on Google (out of a possible 5) based on 88 reviews.
