FDNY extinguishes two-alarm house fire in Elmhurst

Firefighters extinguished a two-alarm house fire in Elmhurst on Saturday afternoon.

The fire started in the second-floor walls at a two-and-a-half-story residence at 83-26 St. James Ave. in Elmhurst at approximately 2:41 p.m. on Feb. 25. FDNY responded to the scene with 25 units consisting of 106 fire personnel.

According to a battalion chief at the scene, the fire extended into the second floor and attic. As fire raced through the walls, responding FDNY personnel also dealt with a heavy clutter condition throughout the building.

Fire suppression teams operated four hose-lines to knock down the fire, according to the battalion chief, who added that searches throughout the residence yielded negative results.

The fire was placed under control at 4:04 p.m., according to FDNY.

There were no injuries reported, the battalion chief said.

As of Sunday morning, FDNY said fire marshals are still investigating the cause of the fire.

A Fresh Meadows man was sentenced to seven years in prison for attempting to kidnap a 5-year-old boy in Richmond Hill in July 2021, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced Tuesday.

Police from the 104th Precinct in Ridgewood are searching for a man who allegedly robbed an 88-year-old woman in Maspeth on the afternoon of Tuesday, Jan. 7.

The senior was walking near the intersection of Brown Place and 58th Avenue, two blocks south of the Long Island Expressway near Frontera Park, at around 4:45 p.m. when the alleged perpetrator snuck up behind her and forcibly removed her pocketbook, police said Tuesday.
