Apr. 6, 2023 By Ethan Marshall

The New York Mets and NewYork-Presbyterian announced a multi-year partnership Thursday. As part of the partnership, the players’ uniforms will have a patch of NewYork-Presbyterian beginning with Friday’s home opener. The partnership is meant to promote health and wellness at the ballpark as well as within the communities these organizations serve.

“The Mets have always believed that baseball’s impact can extend off the field and into the local community,” Mets Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Jeff Deline said. “This philosophy drives us to partner with organizations that can meaningfully engage and uplift the Greater New York area. We’re proud to partner with NewYork-Presbyterian to offer new health and wellness initiatives for the communities, patients and healthcare workers who are the heartbeat of the city.”

The Mets and NewYork-Presbyterian will be working together to host health and wellness events like cancer screenings and blood drives. Additionally, fans will be invited to interactive wellness experiences throughout Citi Field and a branded 7th-inning stretch to promote an active lifestyle. Patients and health care workers from NewYork-Presbyterian will also be recognized on the field during designated Comeback Days. Another part of the new partnership is that each baby delivered at a NewYork-Presbyterian hospital will receive a free Mets onesie.

“We’re thrilled to partner with the New York Mets to improve the health and well-being of all the communities we serve,” NewYork-Presbyterian Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Devika Mathrani said. “Through this partnership, we will work together on community initiatives, activations and experiences that encourage people to prioritize their physical and mental health.”

NewYork-Presbyterian is one of the United States’ most comprehensive, integrated academic healthcare systems. It has ten hospitals across the Greater New York area, an array of telemedicine services and almost 200 primary and specialty care clinics and medical groups.

It is the only academic medical center in the country affiliated with two world-class medical schools, Weill Cornell Medicine and Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. As a result of this collaboration, patients have access to leading physicians, a full range of medical specialties, the latest innovations in care and research that is developing cures and saving lives.

Among some of the medical breakthroughs and innovations that NewYork-Presbyterian has been responsible for since it was founded 250 years ago include the invention of the Pap test and pioneering the groundbreaking heart valve replacement procedure called the Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). Its 48,000 employees and affiliated physicians are dedicated to providing the highest quality and most compassionate care to New Yorkers and patients from across the country and around the world.

Queens to host new memorial in Whitestone honoring 99 post-9/11 fallen service members

Queens Borough President Donovan Richards joined Mayor Eric Adams at City Hall on Tuesday to unveil the initial designs for the new $5 million memorial on the Whitestone waterfront that will honor the 99 fallen post-9/11 service members from New York City who made the ultimate sacrifice during their service in Afghanistan and Iraq. The “Flames of Honor” memorial will be designed by artist Douwe Blumberg and built in Queens.

“Our fallen soldiers gave their last measure of devotion defending the American Dream, and we could not call ourselves the greatest city on the globe if we did not give them the tribute they deserve,” Adams said. “With this memorial, we will honor a new generation of souls who gave their lives far too early in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and say ‘thank you’ to our service members and veterans every day of the year with a beautiful space for remembrance and reflection.”
