The NYPD’s 104th Precinct updated residents of Glendale, Maspeth, Middle Village and Ridgewood with its most recent crime stats during Tuesday night’s Community Council meeting held at St. Margaret Roman Catholic Church in Middle Village.

According to Officer Kevin Moran, within the past 28 days, crime is up by 1.8 % percent compared to other precincts throughout the city. He also shared that within the past 28 days, there have been more than 100 crimes reported within the precinct. Moran said that of those crimes, there have been 38 reported in Ridgewood, 31 in Glendale, 26 in Maspeth and 21 in Middle Village.

“It’s [been] pretty spread out all over our community,”  Moran said during the meeting.

Moran said property crimes — including grand larcenies and burglaries — are up 6.4% compared to the same time period as last year. Additionally, grand larceny auto crimes are up, as well.

Moran reminded residents how important it is for residents to lock their vehicles and park in safe places.

“Make sure you lock your cars,” Moran said. “Make sure that you park somewhere where there might be some surveillance. So if something does happen, we can see.”

Moran also said that violent crimes, such as homicides, are currently down by 8% and burglaries are down 46%.

He said power tools are among the most targeted items in local robberies.

On April 14, a thief stole more than $10,000 worth of tools from a shed in Maspeth. The thief snatched a generator, diagnostic scanner, air compressor, power probe tester, hammer and other tools before fleeing the scene and police are continuing their search for the suspect.

“They’re looking for tools,” Moran said of would-be robbers. “[Tools] happen to be a hot-ticket item.”

Moran ended the meeting by assuring that officers from the 104th Precinct are working hard to clean up crime in Glendale, Maspeth, Middle Village and Ridgewood. He also asked residents to report any suspicious activity by calling 911.
