Ridgewood Savings Bank makes donations to help plant 1,800 trees in America

Apr. 21, 2023 By Julia Moro

Ridgewood Savings Bank (RSB) will be doing its part this Earth Day, April 22, by growing its eco-conscious “Free Green Checking” product, which has resulted in 1,800 trees being planted across America by the global reforestation organization, One Tree Planted.

Free Green Checking is what RSB calls a thoroughly green way to bank. For every new Free Green Checking account opened in 2023, RSB donates to One Tree Planted to have a tree planted in the U.S. National Forest.

“We all have a role to play in protecting the environment and combating climate change, and we admire Ridgewood Savings Bank’s dedication to being a force for good,” said Matt Hill, Founder & Chief Environmental Optimist at One Tree Planted. “With Ridgewood Savings Bank’s commitment to giving back to the environment by planting 1,800 trees to date through their Green Checking account program, we are restoring forests, creating habitat for biodiversity, and making a positive social impact in the United States.”

RSB will also participate in a community cleanup at Kennedy Park in Hicksville on Saturday, April 29. Bank employees are further proving their dedication to the environment by volunteering to beautify the local park at Jerusalem Avenue and Broadway, an event sponsored by a Nassau County legislator on Long Island.

“Ridgewood’s success is driven by our core values of focusing on our customers’ evolving financial needs and ‘multiplying the good’ in our communities,” said Leonard Stekol, President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board of Ridgewood Savings Bank. “We are so pleased that our customers help support the environment by opening Free Green Checking accounts. By taking part, it’s reminiscent of the holiday film ‘It’s a Wonderful Life,’ where for every bell that’s rung, an angel receives its wings. Here, every time a Free Green Checking account is opened, another tree is planted. And that goal is something very special.”

The Free Green Checking account offers zero monthly fees, giving customers total control with free eStatements, access to 90,000 surcharge-free ATMs, 24/7 digital banking, bill pay, Zelle and more.
