Relay for Life of Middle Village celebrates 20 year anniversary

May. 1, 2023 Elijah Hamilton

On Saturday, June 24, residents are invited to Juniper Valley Park to celebrate Relay for Life of Middle Village‘s 20th anniversary.

Rooted in Middle Village for 20 years, The Rally for Life of Middle Village has run numerous fundraisers to help the American Cancer Society (ACS), whose goal is to fight against cancer. This year, the Middle Village Relay for Life event will consist of a survivor lap and a walk around Juniper Valley at Brennan Field.

“The teams there have been around for all 20 years,” said Danni Frank, senior development manager at ACS. “It’s an extraordinary celebration for the community because they’ve been fighting and fundraising for so long and are dedicated to the cause.”

The group’s 20th-anniversary theme is the Roaring ’20s, and the event will feature tons of games where residents can win prizes.

The group will also do a luminary ceremony towards the end, where residents can purchase a paper bag for charity and draw on the bag in honor or memory of a loved one.

“It’s a grand, fun celebration, especially for those survivors and those just finishing their cancer treatments,” Frank said. “It’s always a great and inspiring way to have survivors and their families involved.”

The group also invites cancer survivors, caregivers and families to attend the event.

“We’re welcoming everyone within Middle Village or anywhere in Queens,” Frank said. “We’re just very excited to be here again for the 20th year,” Frank said.

Residents looking to support Relay for Life of Middle Village and their long-standing battle against cancer can donate to their fundraising. Residents can also attend their event at Juniper Valley Park on Saturday, June 24, from 3 p.m. to 12 p.m.
