Brooklyn man dies more than a year after he was stabbed in an Ozone Park subway station: NYPD

A Brooklyn man who was stabbed during an unprovoked attack while he was waiting for an A train in Ozone Park in January 2020, succumbed to his injuries sustained during the course of the assault and was pronounced dead on May 12, according to the NYPD. The investigation into his assault has now been reclassified as a homicide.

Richard Washington, 36, of Classon Street in Clinton Hill, was waiting on the Manhattan-bound platform at the Rockaway Boulevard A train station on the afternoon of Jan. 2, 2020, when he was approached from behind and stabbed twice in his neck by a man who used an unidentified object, according to authorities. Washington collapsed to the ground and his assailant fled.

EMS responded to the crime scene and rushed Washington to Jamaica Hospital Center in critical condition. The NYPD released a surveillance photo of the suspect shortly after the stabbing walking on Liberty Avenue in the vicinity of 96th Street.

Brian Moolenaar, 64, of Ocean Promenade in Rockaway Park was arrested on Jan. 20, 2022, and charged at the 107th Precinct with attempted murder and two counts of assault for the attack on Washington, police said. His case is pending and adjourned until June 14, according to the Queens District Attorney’s Office.

A 72-year-old man was killed after a fire engulfed his illegal basement apartment in South Richmond Hill on Thursday afternoon.

The FDNY received a call just after 5 p.m. of a house fire at 94-14 132nd St. Firefighters confirmed the blaze broke out in the basement. The FDNY dispatched 12 units and 60 firefighters and EMS personnel to the scene. Paramedics rescued the 72-year-old victim, and EMS rushed him to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead a short while later.

Woman allegedly choked in Queensboro Hill by robber who snatched her bag containing thousands in cash: NYPD

Police from the 109th Precinct in Flushing are looking for a strangler who robbed a 63-year-old woman in Queensboro Hill on the night of Thursday, Aug. 29.

The victim was walking on a residential block near the intersection of Frame Place and Maple Avenue just before midnight, when a stranger approached her and began to choke her. The perpetrator snatched her bag, which contained $6,000 in cash, her wallet and an iPhone.
