Forest Park Summer Concert Series returns starting June 29

Finding entertainment during the summer months in Queens won’t be an issue for anyone who pays a visit to the George Seuffert Bandshell at Forest Park in Woodhaven

The Forest Park 2023 Summer Concert Series will bring multiple performances to the greater Forest Hills, Glendale, Woodhaven and surrounding neighborhoods starting Thursday, June 29, at 7:30 p.m.

The Queens Symphony Orchestra will celebrate its 70th Anniversary with a concert of blockbuster and patriotic songs, right before the Fourth of July weekend, at 7:30 p.m. 

For every Thursday in July, performances start at 7:30 p.m. with a mixture of tribute bands and musical talent. On July 6, Captain Jack, a Billy Joel Tribute Band, brings a performance that captures the very essence of the iconic six-time Grammy Award winner and 23-time nominee.

On July 13, Plaza Theatrical Productions performs Jonathan Larson’s Broadway musical “Rent” which won a Tony Award for best musical. On July 20, Jesse Garron’s Tribute to Elvis takes concert-goers back in time to when the “King of Rock” was at his prime. 

The last performance for the month on July 27 will feature The Shining Star Earth Wind and Fire Tribute Band. They’ll bring 10 vocalists and musicians to forest park to play some of the iconic band’s best hits from “Shining Star” and “September.”

Starting on Aug. 3, the Tina Turner Tribute Band, Forever Tina, compliments the late “Queen of rock-n-roll” with its show at 7:30 p.m. The Paul McCartney Tribute Band also joins the array of tribute artists on Aug. 10, at the same time.  

On Aug. 17, at 7 p.m. the Queensboro Dance Festival comes to Forest Park in a 10th-anniversary summer tour celebration, showcasing queens-based dance companies on stage. 

The summer concert series comes to an end on Aug. 18, at 7:30 p.m. with a screening of the movie “School of Rock” featuring legendary musician and actor, Jack Black.

South Richmond Hill senior killed after fire breaks out in his illegal basement apartment on Thursday afternoon

A 72-year-old man was killed after a fire engulfed his illegal basement apartment in South Richmond Hill on Thursday afternoon.

The FDNY received a call just after 5 p.m. of a house fire at 94-14 132nd St. Firefighters confirmed the blaze broke out in the basement. The FDNY dispatched 12 units and 60 firefighters and EMS personnel to the scene. Paramedics rescued the 72-year-old victim, and EMS rushed him to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead a short while later.

Woman allegedly choked in Queensboro Hill by robber who snatched her bag containing thousands in cash: NYPD

Police from the 109th Precinct in Flushing are looking for a strangler who robbed a 63-year-old woman in Queensboro Hill on the night of Thursday, Aug. 29.

The victim was walking on a residential block near the intersection of Frame Place and Maple Avenue just before midnight, when a stranger approached her and began to choke her. The perpetrator snatched her bag, which contained $6,000 in cash, her wallet and an iPhone.
