Burglars snatch over $1,000 while sifting through Middle Village hair salon

Jun. 26, 2023 By Anthony Medina

A pair of burglars forced their way into A Classic Touch Hair Salon, at 61-08 80th St. in Middle Village and stole over $1,000 on Monday, June 19.

Police say, at approximately 12:45 a.m., officers from the 104th Precinct responded to a 911 call about a burglary at the salon, in the vicinity of 80th Street and Eliot Avenue.

Video surveillance footage from the salon captured the two suspects rummaging through the cash register and searching the store for more items to steal.

The owner of A Classic Touch Hair Salon, Angela Ehresman, said the two crooks broke into the front, left-facing door of the salon with a crowbar at 11:45 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, and made away with over $1,000 in cash. The duo also took off with miscellaneous salon supplies like hair products and scissors.

“I’ve been there 11 years and I never got robbed before, to be honest. It’s quite scary what this neighborhood has become. Obviously, you know, you can’t even feel safe anymore,” Ehresman said.

Ehresman said the two depicted in the video looked like two younger men and she was surprised by their willingness to rob the store before the night turned to morning. Although this incident set the store back, Ehresman said she’s thankful that it happened outside of operating hours and away from customers and workers.

“What am I going to do? At the end of the day, you know, it’s not like my place was demolished or something happened or my mirrors were broken, it was nothing like that. They were just looking for money,” Ehresman added.

Police said the suspects fled the scene northbound on 80th Street. According to Ehresman, the couple of thieves also attempted to break into neighboring businesses before getting to her salon.

The perpetrators remain at large and police are continuing investigations.
