RESULTS: Middle Village Players Roller Hockey League persists with thrilling games

The Middle Village Players Roller Hockey League made a few adjustments to its game schedule due to unusual rainfall last month and into October, but the matches continued with a couple of thrilling games for the season.

On Friday, Sept. 22, in the game between the Jets and the Bears, the Jets secured their first win of the season 5-2. Paulie (No. 27) delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 4 goals in the game, along with Nicholas (No. 7) getting his 1st goal of the season for the Jets. Jets goalie Alex (No. 12) gathered 16 saves throughout the game, including saves on two breakaways, leading to the team’s victory.

The Bears goalie Jack (No.1) had 20 saves and stopped 3 breakaways from the Jets.

A big win for the High Flyers over the Hawks on Wednesday, Sept. 27, with Scotti (No.1) the goalie for the High Flyers, pulling out all the stops in a stellar game, only allowing one goal by the opposing team. The High Flyers pulled off a hat trick by Alex (No. 20) and Jax (No. 22), who was filling in for the team.

On Sunday, Oct. 1, in back-to-back games after getting washed out due to flash floods over Friday and Saturday, the Hawks were back on track with a victory over the Bears 7-1. Mason (No. 21) and Jake (No. 11) from the Hawks made a combined 25 Saves. Gino the goalie kept this game out of reach of the Bears the entire game.

The Jets outlasted the High Flyers in a nail bitter that went to the last shift 4-3. Felix (No. 17) from the Jets netted 2 goals and Emmet (No. 21) scored his 1st goal of the season. Jets goalie Alex (No. 22) came up with 22 Saves to preserve the team’s win.

The High Flyers Nazariy (No. 27) added 2 more goals, bringing his league-leading total up to 14 for the season. Max (No. 14) also added his 1st goal of the season for the High Flyers.

All four teams have 2 wins and 2 losses for the season so far.

MVP will have a local singer perform the national anthem for the next set of games on Saturday, Oct. 7.

Alleged squatter indicted for illegally occupying Howard Beach home: DA

A Hollis woman was indicted by a Queens grand jury on charges of burglary, criminal trespass and other related crimes for illegally occupying a single-family home in Howard Beach.

Laurel Bay, 49, of 198th Street, was arraigned Thursday in Queens Supreme Court on a five-count indictment for allegedly squatting in a house on 99th Street that had been vacant since 2012, with the homeowner managing the property from out of state.

E train rider beaten with a skateboard during attempted robbery, suspect remains at large a month later: NYPD

Police from the 112th Precinct in Forest Hills and Transit District 20 are looking for a suspect who weaponized a skateboard to bludgeon an E train rider last month.

The attack went down during the early morning hours of Monday, Sept. 16, as the 36-year-old victim was sitting on a southbound E approaching the Forest Hills–71st Avenue station at around 3 a.m. when a stranger approached. The intruder attempted to remove property from the victim’s pocket. The targeted rider began to record the older man with his cell phone. The stranger grabbed a skateboard from another rider and smashed the victim in his head, police said Tuesday.
