Duo sought in drive-by shooting near popular Jamaica playground: NYPD

The NYPD is still looking for a motorcycle-riding gunman who opened fire near a popular Jamaica playground last month.

Detectives from the 103rd Precinct in Jamaica are investigating the reckless endangerment case that went down just before 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27, when two unknown men riding on a red and silver motorcycle discharged a firearm multiple times in front of a home at 138-02 106th Ave.,  according to authorities. The home is located across the street from the Norelli-Hargreaves Playground alongside the Van Wyck Expressway.

The suspects sped away from the scene and were last seen heading northbound on the Van Wyck toward Flushing Meadows Corona Park, police said, adding that there were no injuries reported during the shooting incident.

The NYPD released a surveillance photo of the two suspects on Oct. 18 and described them as having dark complexions. The operator of the motorcycle wore a gray hooded sweatshirt, a blue baseball cap and dark pants His passenger wore a blue hooded sweatshirt, a blue baseball cap and blue jeans. It is not clear which one fired the shots.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.

The 103rd Precinct has reported 10 shooting incidents so far in 2023, 10 fewer than the 21 reported at the same point last year, a decline of 52.4%, according to the latest CompStat report.

Twenty individuals were indicted and variously charged in a wide-ranging scheme to steal cars in Queens, throughout New York City and its suburbs, following a three-year investigation by the Queens District Attorney’s Office, the NYPD, and the New York State Police dubbed “Operation Hellcat,” into the criminal enterprise based in Queens.
