A Kew Gardens Hills man was critically wounded after he was shot during an early morning home invasion near the Queens College campus on Wednesday, Oct. 18, and police are searching for six suspects in connection with the heinous crime.
Police from the 109th Precinct in Flushing responded to a 911 call about a robbery in progress around 5:30 a.m. and found a 31-year-old man with gunshot wounds. The victim was rushed by EMS to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital in Flushing, where he was listed in critical condition with gunshot wounds to his chest and arm, police said.
A preliminary investigation determined that six men entered a multiple-dwelling residence in the vicinity of Main Street and 62nd Avenue and, once inside they broke into an apartment and took $800 in cash. After breaking a window of a second apartment in the same building, one of the home invaders entered and was confronted by the victim and a second man. During the confrontation, one individual discharged a firearm striking the victim, police said.
The six home invaders fled in a dark-colored SUV in an unknown direction, police said.
The NYPD released several surveillance photos of some of the suspects and the dark-colored SUV.

Through Oct. 15, the 109th Precinct has reported 254 robberies so far in 2023, 25 more than the 229 reported at the same point last year, an increase of 10.9%, according to the most recent CompStat report. Shootings, however, are up in 2023, with six incidents during the period, a 20% increase from the 5 shootings that took place through Oct. 15, 2022, according to CompStat.
