For the second time, Council Member Vickie Paladino partnered with School District 25 to distribute thousands of books to children in Flushing.
The Spook-tacular Family Book Night on Tuesday, Oct. 24, in Browne Park brought out thousands of costume clad parents and children ahead of Halloween. Costumes based on favorite book characters were especially encouraged.

By the end of the event, which also featured snacks, face painting and live music to enjoy, there were no books left over. The organizers say that over 4,000 books were distributed throughout the evening.
“I am thrilled at the turnout for this event and our success in distributing these books,” said Paladino. “It is so important for the children of District 19 to have access to books to further their education and reading and this was a great way to bring access to my community.”

The idea was originally proposed to the councilwoman by Dr. Michael Dantona, Superintendent of District 25, months ago. His school district includes Flushing, Whitestone and College Point.

There will be another Spook-tacular Family Book Night in Kissena Park on Thursday, Oct. 26, in partnership with Council Member Sandra Ung, and another book distribution event is already in the works for the spring.
