Police search for suspect who stole car on busy road in Ridgewood

Police from the 104th Precinct are searching for the thief who stole a man’s car during the evening rush on a busy road in Ridgewood last month.

Police say a 28-year-old man discovered his 2016 Kia Sorrento was missing after he left his car parked and running in front of 70-08 Forest Ave. on Wednesday, Oct. 25. The car was taken from the scene at approximately 6:05 p.m., according to authorities.

The car was later discovered abandoned several blocks away at 65th Place and Central Avenue in Glendale with missing license plates, police said.

In a surveillance footage screenshot shared by the 104th Precinct, the suspect could be seen wearing a gray Champion hoodie, black sweatpants and sandals.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

Grand larceny auto (GLA) crimes continue to be a consistent problem for the 104th Precinct. Down by 16.7% in GLA crimes over the course of a 28-day period ending on Sunday, Nov. 26, the precinct still remains up by 19.6% with 53 more reported incidents year-to-date from 2022.

Police from the 112th Precinct in Forest Hills and Transit District 20 are looking for a suspect who weaponized a skateboard to bludgeon an E train rider last month.

The attack went down during the early morning hours of Monday, Sept. 16, as the 36-year-old victim was sitting on a southbound E approaching the Forest Hills–71st Avenue station at around 3 a.m. when a stranger approached. The intruder attempted to remove property from the victim’s pocket. The targeted rider began to record the older man with his cell phone. The stranger grabbed a skateboard from another rider and smashed the victim in his head, police said Tuesday.
