A Bronx man was criminally charged for going on a bloody rampage in and around a Long Island City subway station Saturday morning that left three men injured with slash wounds to their faces.
Christian Marrero, 21, of Clay Avenue in the Bathgate section of the Bronx, was arraigned before Queens Criminal Court Judge Maria Gonzalez on multiple counts of assault and weapons possession for allegedly slashing the three victims in the face with a razor blade, according to the criminal complaint.
Police from the 108th Precinct in Long Island City and Transit District 20 responded to a 911 call of an assault at the Queens Plaza subway station at around 8:20 a.m. on June 22. Upon arrival, officers found a 32-year-old man, a 23-year-old man and a 45-year-old man with slash wounds to the face.
The first victim was allegedly attacked by Marrero at around 8 a.m. inside a northbound E train as the assailant pulled out a razor blade and slashed the 45-year-old man on his ear, face and arm. The victim’s earlobe became partially detached and as the subway pulled into the Queens Plaza station, the victim stumbled onto the platform. Marrero also got off the subway and ran out of the station at 43rd Avenue and 27th Street in the Court Square section, where he struck again two blocks away in front of 42-57 27th St., running up to his second victim and allegedly slashing him in the face with the razor blade before running off. Marrero then appeared a block south in front of 42-57 27th St., where he ran up behind his third victim and slashed him across the face with the razor blade.
EMS transported the 45-year-old man and the 23-year-old victim to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, where the 45-year-old received 18 stitches to repair the laceration to his face and to reattach part of his earlobe, according to the criminal complaint.
The 32-year-old man was transported by EMS to Elmhurst Hospital, where he received 30 stitches to repair the laceration to his face, according to the criminal complaint.. All three victims were listed in stable condition, police said.
Police spotted Marrero back at the scene of the first attack in the Queens Plaza subway station just before 9 a.m. and took him into custody. A razor blade was recovered from his pants pocket, according to the criminal complaint.
Judge Gonzalez remanded Marrero without bail and ordered him to return to court on July 16.
