Mar. 22, 2024 By Athena Dawson Members from the mayor’s office brought the Jamaica Neighborhood Plan to life with an exhibit, at Queens Central Library on 89-11 Merrick Blvd. The plan, launched in 2023, is an onging economic development project to revitalize Jamaica.   The project’s vision is to make downtown Jamaica a desirable place for new business owners, residents and investors.  Today the exhibit, located in the library’s atrium,  featured multiple infographics highlighting  potential goals of the program. Mar. 22, 2024 By Bill Parry Detectives at the 113th Precinct in Jamaica are investigating a fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man in Springfield Gardens on Thursday. Police responded to a 911 call of a shooting victim at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center just before 10:30 p.m., where they were met by medical personnel who told them that the victim had been transported there by private means with a gunshot wound to his chest. Mar. 21, 2024 By Iryna Shkurhan Whitestone teenager Vasilios Golias was found dead in his Whitestone home on Wednesday morning.  Police officers responded to a 911 call at 8:30 a.m. regarding an unconscious teen. The responding officers and EMS found the 17-year-old not breathing and unresponsive upon arrival.  Officials declared him dead on the scene and began carrying out an investigation into the cause of his death, which is currently underway.  Council Member Vickie Paladino, who represents the area, shared additional information about the incident on her official X account.
