Jan. 24, 2024 By Ethan Marshall The number of reported rapes and burglaries across Queens both dropped over the last month compared to the same period of time last year, according to the latest crime stats released by the NYPD Monday. During the 28-day period from Dec. 25 to Jan. 21, the number of reported rapes went down 20% in northern Queens, from 15 reported cases last year to 12 this year. Assembly Member Jenifer Rajkumar, the first Hindu-American elected to New York State Office, led a ceremony Sunday afternoon outside of Shree Tulsi Mandir, located at 103-24 111th St., following the destruction of the original statue in August 2022. Homeless man found fit to stand trial for brutal beating in Queens subway station that left woman blind in one eye: DA

A 43-year-old homeless man was found fit to stand trial and was arraigned in Queens Supreme Court Monday on an indictment charging him with attempted murder in connection with a violent and unprovoked attack that left a subway rider in Howard Beach blind in one eye, according to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz.
