Bayside resident to compete on May 25 episode of Jeopardy!

Thursday’s episode of the hit game show Jeopardy! will be featuring a Queens native as one of the contestants. Accounting director Jesse Chin of Bayside will compete on “America’s Favorite Quiz Show.”

Hosted by Mayim Bialik, the show will feature Chin facing off against two other contestants on May 25. Chin is the latest of a long history of Queens residents to participate on the show.

Thursday’s episode is scheduled to air at 7 p.m. on ABC.

With more than 20 million viewers each week, Jeopardy! is the top-rated quiz show on television. Since it first started airing in 1964, the show has won a total of 43 Emmy Awards, which is also the Guinness World Records title for the most Emmy Awards won by a TV game show. Additionally, the show has received a Peabody Award for “celebrating and rewarding knowledge.”

The original host of the show was Art Fleming, who held the position from 1964-1979. When the show returned to television in 1984, Alex Trebek became a pop culture icon when he took over as host, serving the role until his death in 2020. Since 2021, Bialik has shared hosting duties with Ken Jennings, who holds the record for the longest winning streak on the show with 74 straight wins.

Father slashed defending son in after-school fight near Hollis playground; 14-year-old arrested: NYPD

A 14-year-old boy was arrested for slashing a father who tried to defend his son during an after-school brawl near I.S. 192 in St. Albans on Wednesday afternoon.

Police from the 113th Precinct in Jamaica responded to a 911 call of a man slashed at 109-89 204th St. just before 3:40 p.m. When officers arrived on the scene, they were informed by NYPD School Safety that the 37-year-old man was slashed across the lower back during a dispute between two strangers in the vicinity of 204th Street and Hollis Avenue, police said Friday, stressing that the incident did not occur on school grounds.
