An off-duty Brooklyn cop was arrested and booked at the 106th Precinct in Ozone Park on Saturday, Aug. 26, for assaulting his ex-girlfriend in her South Ozone Park apartment near the Aqueduct Racetrack, according to authorities.
NYPD Police Officer Aneal Mahabir, 23, was taken into custody after he allegedly shoved his 22-year-old former girlfriend to the floor of her home during a verbal altercation at her apartment, police said.
According to the criminal complaint, Mahabir sent the victim a text message on Aug. 26 saying, “I left flowers and food outside your door,” before arriving at her 114th Place apartment just before 11 p.m. When she opened the door, Mahabir allegedly pushed his way into her residence, grabbed her around the body and pushed her onto a couch and the floor multiple times, according to the charges. The victim sustained redness and abrasions to her neck and shoulder, as well as substantial pain. He remained inside the apartment and was arrested by officers from the 106th Precinct.
Mahabir is assigned to the 75th Precinct in the East New York section of Brooklyn. He has been on the job since 2021 and has no disciplinary history, according to the NYPD.
Mahabir was arraigned before Queens Criminal Court Judge Maria Gonzalez on a criminal complaint charging him with assault in the third degree and burglary in the first and second degree for knowingly entering a building with intent to commit a crime withing the dwelling.
He was ordered to return to court on Oct. 23, according to the Queens District Attorney’s Office.
