Flushing Town Hall is celebrating Women’s History Month with the return of its Women’s History Trilogy, a three-part series featuring outstanding vocalists paying tribute to legendary popular music singers and songwriters.

“March is for powerhouse female vocalists, and we look forward to celebrating their talents on our stage,” said Ellen Kodadek, Flushing Town Hall’s executive & artistic director. “Audiences will enjoy a range of popular music hits and are sure to hear some of their personal favorites.”

Flushing Town Hall kicked off its trilogy series on Friday, March 3, with Golden Girls, featuring vocalist Zoe Lyons Nieves performing more than 40 years of popular songs made famous by living legends Dionne Warwick, Shirley Bassey, Barbra Streisand, Carole King, Petula Clark, Katy Perry, Alicia Keys and Lady Gaga.

The trilogy continues on Friday, March 17, at 7 p.m. with Paris is for Lovers – French Songs Made Famous by Women, featuring a selection of famous, romantic French songs by Edith Piaf, Jacques Prévert, Yves de Montand and Michael Fugain. German-born vocalist Gabriele Tranchina will be joined on stage by her husband and music director Joe Vincent Tranchina to transport all who attend into a romantic feeling of love and music French-style.

Tranchina traverses the world of jazz and song in multiple languages. She is a German-born Parisian chanteuse, with Brazilian stylings, now based in New York City. She sings throughout the tri-state area with her ensemble and on annual tours to major European cities, where she enjoys a reputation as a well-respected, popular jazz and world vocalist. Her most recent album is “Of Sailing Ships and the Stars in Your Eyes.”

The trilogy concludes on Friday, March 31, at 7 p.m. with I’m Every Woman, a tribute to famous female pop singers who have passed. Vocalist Emilie Surtees will take the stage with her band and background singers to perform the works of Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston, Olivia Newtown John and Aretha Franklin.

Surtees is a seasoned vocalist and independent artist who has written and co-produced all the tunes on her “Reflections of You” CD. She has developed grassroots following in the tri-state area and internationally. Born and raised in New York City, Surtees has been exposed to a diverse music culture, which is present in her songs and performances.

In-person tickets for each “Trilogy” performance are $15 or $12 for members, seniors, and students with ID.
