Mother, daughter struck by SUV while crossing street near Maspeth High School: NYPD

A mother and daughter were struck by the driver of a Dodge Durango SUV as they tried to cross 74th Street in Maspeth Sunday afternoon, according to authorities.

The victims had just stepped off the curb outside of the Shop & Stor self-storage facility near the intersection of Grand Avenue, around the corner from Maspeth High School, when they were hit at around 1:15 p.m. on June 11.

Police from the 104th Precinct in Ridgewood responded to the report of pedestrians struck at the location and found the victims lying in the roadway. They were transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, where the girl was listed in serious, but stable condition and her mother received treatment for minor injuries.

The man who was behind the wheel remained at the scene and was not arrested

A search of How’s My Driving New York revealed that the vehicle has received more than two dozen school zone speed camera violations in south Queens in the last four years, with more than a dozen in the vicinity of Scholars’ Academy at Beach Channel Drive and Beach 104th Street in Rockaway Beach in 2019 and 2020. The vehicle was also hit with nearly a dozen more school zone speed camera violations around Howard Beach and Brooklyn since 2023.

A doctor at a Woodhaven urgent care facility was arrested on Sept. 9 by detectives from the Queens Special Victims Squad for sexual abuse and forcible touching of one of his patients last month.

Amir Sitafalwalla, 72, of Fairway Drive in Manhasset, Long Island, was booked at the 102nd Precinct in Richmond Hill and arraigned in Queens Criminal Court for the sexual assault of a 21-year-old man who visited the ModernMD, located at 89-22 Jamaica Avenue.
