Dec. 5, 2023 By Ethan Marshall The number of burglaries across Queens has dropped year-to-date through Dec. 3 compared to 2022, according to the latest crime stats from the NYPD. While the degree of change varies between northern and southern Queens, both areas have experienced fewer burglaries. In northern Queens, burglary cases dropped 3.5% year-to-date, from 1,878 in 2022 to 1,813 this year. In southern Queens, the number of burglaries fell 7.8%, from 1,149 to 1,059. Dec. 4, 2023 By Bill Parry A Richmond Hill man was killed early Monday morning while he was riding on the back of a moped after the operator lost control in southeast Queens, according to authorities. Police from the 103rd Precinct in Jamaica responded to a 911 call of a vehicle collision near the intersection of 146th Street and Jamaica Avenue just before 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 4. At the same time, grand larceny has been on the decline. Felony assaults were up 16.5% in northern Queens for the year through Nov. 12, rising from 2,184 in 2022 to 2,544 in 2023.
