Jan. 16, 2024 By Rachel Butler Approximately 35 Flushing residents attended the NYPD 109th Precinct Community Council meeting at Bowne Street Community Church on Jan. 11 where they were introduced to a new commanding officer who addressed an uptick in robberies and auto thefts. The NYPD has appointed Deputy Inspector Kevin Coleman to take over the precinct who– prior to the move– was the commanding officer of the 104th Precinct that covers the Queens neighborhoods of Ridgewood, Maspeth, Middle Village and Glendale. Felony assault cases have increased in both northern and southern Queens for the 28-day period from Nov. 20 through Dec. 17, compared to the same 28-day period last year.
