Dec. 5, 2023 By Ethan Marshall The number of burglaries across Queens has dropped year-to-date through Dec. 3 compared to 2022, according to the latest crime stats from the NYPD. While the degree of change varies between northern and southern Queens, both areas have experienced fewer burglaries. In northern Queens, burglary cases dropped 3.5% year-to-date, from 1,878 in 2022 to 1,813 this year. In southern Queens, the number of burglaries fell 7.8%, from 1,149 to 1,059. Nov. 21, 2023 By Ethan Marshall The number of vehicles being stolen, categorized by the NYPD as grand larceny auto, has increased throughout Queens year-to-date, compared to the same period in 2022, according to the latest crime stats released by the NYPD. Nov. 15, 2023 By Ethan Marshall Felony assaults have increased throughout Queens year-to-date, compared to the same period in 2022, according to the latest crime stats released by the NYPD. At the same time, grand larceny has been on the decline. Felony assaults were up 16.5% in northern Queens for the year through Nov. 12, rising from 2,184 in 2022 to 2,544 in 2023.  In southern Queens, felony assaults rose 5.8% for the year through Nov. 12, from 2,354 to 2,490. Police officers rescue blind dog from ‘frigid’ Jamaica pond

Nov. 3, 2023 By Iryna Shkurhan On Halloween morning, when the temperature was hovering around 40 degrees, 911 calls reporting a dog drowning in Baisley Pond in Jamaica were relayed to local police.  Two officers from the 113th Precinct, which covers southeastern Queens, responded to the incident at 8:30 a.m. and successfully rescued Sparky, the 8-year old Border Collie.
