Bayside senior robbed by man who forced his way into her home near Alley Pond Park: NYPD

A 92-year-old Bayside woman was robbed by a stranger who barged into her home near Alley Pond Park on Wednesday morning. Police from the 111th Precinct in Bayside are looking for the man who knocked on the door of the victim’s residence in the vicinity of 231st Street and 64th Avenue just before 11 a.m. on Jan. 3.

Jan. 3, 2024 By Bill Parry The Queens District Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing the case against Stalin Vera, whose 2019 robbery conviction was reversed by the New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division last week. The court ruled that a prosecutor illegally denied three Black prospective jurors from serving on the jury that convicted Vera of robbery and criminal possession of stolen property on May 17, 2019. In the Dec. 27 ruling, the appellate judges determined that the defendant would have to be retried if the Queens District Attorney’s Office continues to seek a conviction in the case. The…

Jan. 3, 2024 By Bill Parry Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz was sworn in for a second term Tuesday in the Helen Marshall Cultural Center at Queens Borough Hall. The ceremony was attended by 200 staff and justices, and her youngest son, Hunter, held the copy of the Old Testament used for the swearing in. She was sworn in by Supreme Court Administrative Judge Donna-Marie Golia. Pedestrian struck dead after falling over on Woodhaven Boulevard

Jan. 2, 2024 By Aidan Graham and QNS A 51-year-old man is dead after being struck by two vehicles on Woodhaven Boulevard on New Year’s Day.  According to police, the victim was crossing Woodhaven Boulevard mid-block near 91st Avenue, when he tripped onto the center median and fell into the southbound lanes — causing him to be struck by the driver of a 2002 Toyota at around 7 a.m. After the initial collision, the victim was thrown into the northbound lanes of Woodhaven Boulevard where he was subsequently struck by a driver of a 2008 Jeep.  EMS responded to the…
