Pawlacio Pets celebrates second annual Rockaway Dog Parade

Oct. 9, 2023 By John Schilling Numerous locals gathered on the Rockaway Beach boardwalk with their dogs on Sunday, Oct. 8 for the second annual Rockaway Dog Parade sponsored by Pawlacio Pets, “the first and only” pet care facility on the peninsula since February 2022. Hosted by pet expert Dana Humphrey, who is also known as “The Pet Lady,” the event’s proceeds benefited the Allied Rockaway Foundation for Animal Recreation and Fitness (ARF-ARF), a nonprofit organization that supports and oversees the peninsula’s dog parks. Two employees at a Fresh Meadows massage parlor were robbed at knifepoint on Sunday evening. Police from the 107th Precinct in Fresh Meadows responded to reports of a robbery at the Blue Sea Spa, located at 162-02 Union Tpke., after two men entered the establishment at around 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 1.

Oct. 6, 2023 By Bill Parry A Jamaica man expressed “profound remorse” in Queens Supreme Court on Friday morning after he was sentenced to 25 years in state prison for the attempted murder of his estranged wife nine months ago in front of her Flushing home. Stephen Giraldo, of 144th Street, pleaded guilty to attempted murder last month for running over 41-year-old Sophia Giraldo with his SUV, before stabbing her in the chest, all in the presence of their three young children. A man is in critical condition after he was pulled from the surf in Rockaway Beach by good Samaritans on Thursday evening. The 31-year-old swimmer and another man nearly drowned after they ignored the familiar red no swimming flags posted at Beach 86th Street and went into the ocean, according to the FDNY.
