A 74-year-old woman is in critical condition after being struck by a driver in the crosswalk at an intersection in Bay Terrace Monday.

The woman was hit while crossing 26th Avenue at Corporal Kennedy Street at around 12:56 p.m. when a driver in a 2021 GMC SUV traveling along 26th Avenue struck the senior while making a turn onto Corporal Kennedy Street.

When EMS responded to the scene, they found the woman lying on the roadway in the crosswalk. She was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Queens, in critical condition. It isn’t clear whether the elderly woman had the light.

The driver, a 43-year-old woman, struck another vehicle after hitting the elderly woman at the intersection. The vehicle that was struck was stopped at the intersection in the southbound lane of Corporal Kennedy Street at a red light. That vehicle, a 2019 Nissan Sentra, was being operated by a 63-year-old man.

Neither vehicle operator was injured. There have been no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.

This is especially true for New Yorkers who support themselves and their families doing delivery work — and we stand alongside our lawmakers who are looking to change that.
