89-Year-Old Woman Struck on 48th Street by Motorist Coming Out of BJ’s Parking Lot

An 89-year-old woman is in critical condition after being struck by a motorist while crossing 48th Street near Northern Boulevard on Saturday.

The elderly woman was crossing 48th Street at around 2:40 p.m. when a driver operating a Dodge Durango made a left turn out of a parking lot and hit her. The driver, who was exiting the parking lot where BJ’s Wholesale Club is located, was turning northbound on 48th Street.

EMS responded to the scene and transported the 89-year-old to NYC Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst where she is listed in critical condition.

The driver, a 37-year-old man, remained on the scene. He too was taken to NYC Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst but with minor injuries.

No arrests have been made. The investigation remains ongoing and is being conducted by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad.

Bayside resident wins ‘Jeopardy!’

Bayside resident Jesse Chin emerged as the winner on the May 25 episode of Jeopardy!. Chin ended up winning $24,801 and will return to the show next week to defend his title.

Chin works as an accounting director. He entered Final Jeopardy with $14,800, which was $2,400 more than the person in second place. While the other two contestants ended up being correct on the Final Jeopardy answer, so was Chin, who had wagered $10,001.
