Jan. 14, 2021 By Michael Dorgan

A 72-year-old man was fatally stabbed inside a Queens Village apartment this morning, police said.

Police discovered the man with multiple stab wounds to his body after receiving a 911 call at around 6:30 a.m. that there was an emotionally disturbed individual at 221-15 Hempstead Ave., according to police.

Cops also found three of the victim’s family members lying unconscious on a mattress inside the apartment. They had no visible signs of injuries, police said.

The police arrested a 30-year-old man at the scene who is believed to be the victim’s son. According to cops, the suspect was acting erratically and incoherently in the hallway– before directing officers to his father and his other family members.

The three family members found unconscious were the suspect’s 70-year-old mother, his 31-year-old brother and his 29-year-old sister in law. They were all taken to area hospitals in critical condition and are likely to survive.

Police said that a pair of scissors – which may have been used in the stabbing – was recovered at the scene lying in the hallway.

The FDNY dispatched its HazMat unit to evaluate the scene for hazardous chemicals. They determined that there were no elevated signs of CO2 present inside the apartment, police said.

Additionally, the NYPD took air samples and did not find any irregularities, police said.

Police said there was no prior history of domestic violence or any other calls of emotionally disturbed people at the location.

The suspect was taken to an area hospital for psychological evaluation

The investigation is ongoing.
