A Republican running for the Astoria City Council seat is kicking off her campaign with the grand opening of her campaign office Saturday.

Felicia Kalan is running against Tiffany Cabán for the Council District 22 seat representing Astoria, East Elmhurst and parts of Jackson Heights and Woodside.

Kalan is hosting a grand opening event for her new campaign headquarters in Astoria on Saturday at 2 p.m. She will meet with supporters and residents of the district at her office located at 26-17 23rd Ave.

“This grand opening will be the launch of her efforts to communicate her vision for the community,” Kalan’s campaign said in a statement.

The opening of the office marks the start of her “four-month-long tour, against her opponent Tiffany Cabán,” Kalan’s campaign said in a statement.

“Felicia is particularly excited about this event because she knows that this district faces a unique set of challenges including overcrowding schools and child care, rising costs of living, clean streets, access to affordable housing and healthcare, and crime,” her campaign said. “As a mother of two, a social entrepreneur, a former legislative aide, a community activist, and a faith leader, she has the fortitude and experience to take on these challenges.”

Kalan and Cabán are set to face off in the Nov. 2 general election for the seat formerly held by the term-limited Costa Constantinides. Constantinides left office in April to become the Chief Executive Officer of the nonprofit, the Variety Boys and Girls Club of Queens.

The race also includes independent candidate Edwin DeJesus.

The winner of the general election will take office immediately — instead of on Jan. 1, 2022 — to fill the Council vacancy.

FDNY fights 2-alarm blaze in Rockaway Beach at BBQ joint with a rich history of a bygone era

The FDNY battled a two-alarm blaze at a restaurant in Rockaway Beach that stirred up some ghosts for residents of the neighborhood.

The fire broke out just after 7 p.m. at the Smoke and Barrel BBQ at 97-20 Rockway Beach Blvd., in the same location as the old Boggiano’s Bar and Grill. It stood for three-quarters of a century across from the entrance to Rockaway Beach’s Playland Amusement Park, which drew visitors from across the city to what was known as the Irish Riviera, an alternative to Coney Island on the Brooklyn side of Jamaica Bay.
