Xi’an Famous Foods, a popular Chinese restaurant chain, will open a new location in a Flushing mega-development next year.

The acclaimed chain, which was originally founded in Flushing, will open its fourth Queens outpost in the Tangram, a 1.2-million-square-foot mixed-use development on the corner of College Point Boulevard and 39th Avenue in downtown Flushing.

The restaurant is set to open in early 2022 in a 1,500-square-foot ground-floor space inside the Tangram. It will feature an open kitchen format so patrons can watch chefs pull Xi’an’s famed noodles and cook their meals.

The Tangram location will offer the menu items fans of the chain know well, such as its signature Liang Pi “cold-skin noodles”, Xi’an-style burgers with house-made flatbread stuffed with stewed pork or spicy cumin lamb and various biang biang hand-ripped noodle dishes.

The eatery will be the second Xi’an Famous Foods in Flushing. The fast-casual chain also has locations in Woodside and Long Island City as well as two in Brooklyn and four in Manhattan.

Xi’an Famous Foods was first established in Flushing’s Golden Shopping Mall in 2005 out of a family’s desire to bring authentic Western Chinese cuisine to New York City. Xi’an cuisine is known for combining Chinese and Middle Eastern flavors and spices.

“When my father founded this restaurant, he was missing the food of our hometown, Xi’an, and wanted to enjoy and share this unique cuisine with others in Queens and beyond,” said Jason Wang, Owner and Chief Executive Officer of Xi’an Famous Foods. “Tangram is an important cultural destination in New York City as a whole and we’re honored to align with their team and our mission of satiating cravings, while promoting unique cuisine and culture.”

The restaurant chain has developed a cult-like following and has been featured in a number of television series such as the late Anthony Bourdain’s “No Reservations” as well as the Rachel Ray Show and Good Morning America.

“This is a restaurant franchise that was conceived and grown right here in Flushing,” said Helen Lee, Executive Vice President of F&T Group, the developer of Tangram. “Xi’an Famous Foods is a prime example of the unique local-meets-global culture and cuisine we are curating here at Tangram.”

Xi’an Famous Foods is the latest restaurant to sign a lease at the Tangram. Others include Beijing-based Ju Qui, Taiwanese dessert bar Meet Fresh, Hong Kong café Cuppa Tea and Chinese hot pot chain Xiao Long Kan Hot Pot.

The Tangram also includes Flushing’s first beer garden, a 24,000-square-foot food hall, a 4DX Regal Cinemas movie theater, an Orangetheory Fitness and a 208-key Renaissance hotel.

The Tangram also features two residential towers, an office tower, additional retail space and a 24,000-square-foot food hall.

A Long Island man was sentenced Wednesday in Queens Supreme Court for filing fraudulent paperwork to claim he fully owned a Queens Village home when his niece had actually inherited half of it. Wagner Recio, 52, of Butler Boulevard in Elmont, pleaded guilty in December 2022 to filing falsified documents the previous year in order to obtain a mortgage against the value of the Queens Village property and kept the financial proceeds for himself.

According to the charges, Recio and his brother, Alejandro Recio, jointly owned a house on 220th Street in Queens Village as Tenants in Common (TIC), allowing each owner undivided interest to sell, transfer or borrow against their own share in the property.

Op-ed: Making the change: Illegal cannabis stores will now be closed!

May. 1, 2024 By Assemblymember Stacey Pheffer Amato

I am currently writing this in the early hours after intensely debating the State Budget. As your State representative, I have been working to pass fiscal policies that represent the needs of our community. Moments ago, our community scored a tremendous victory as I voted yes and passed into law the hard stance against illegal cannabis shops that we have all asked for. Finally, the law gives law enforcement the ability to close these stores and padlock them shut!
