Woman Put in Chokehold, Robbed of $1,000 Cash Outside Grand Avenue Station in Elmhurst: NYPD

A woman was allegedly put in a chokehold and robbed of $1,000 cash by a mugger outside a subway entrance in Elmhurst last week.

The victim, 38, was in front of the entrance to the Grand Avenue–Newtown subway station on Jan. 10 at around 9:40 a.m. when a suspect approached her from behind and wrapped his arm around her throat, according to police.

The suspect placed the woman in a chokehold and then snatched her purse before fleeing the scene eastbound on Queens Boulevard, police said.

The woman’s purse contained $1,000, her vaccination card and her passport which was issued by the nation of Thailand. She did not suffer any injuries and the suspect did not say anything to her during the robbery, cops said.

The suspect is described as dark-skinned, 6 feet tall and weighing around 150 pounds. He is between 30 and 40 years of age.

Police released a photo of the suspect showing him wearing a gray-colored jacket over a green hoody with jeans.
