The police arrested a Queens man who allegedly beat and robbed a 53-year-old Filipino immigrant at a McDonald’s in midtown Manhattan Monday.
Rasheed Osundairo, 30, of Rosedale, allegedly punched his victim in the face while the man was trying to place an order at around 7:40 a.m. at a McDonald’s on Seventh Avenue.
Osundairo, according to police, demanded the man’s wallet before proceeding to punch him again and fling him against a wall—which knocked the victim down to the ground. He then kicked him in the head and grabbed the victim’s wallet and cellphone.
The victim, Melvin Dizon, sustained a severe head injury and was admitted at NYC Health + Hospitals/ Bellevue in critical but stable condition.
Dizon told the Daily News that he was just trying to order breakfast at the West 34th Street/7th Avenue McDonald’s on his way to work. He said that none of the customers in the restaurant came to his aid.
“I said, ‘Help, help, please call the cops,’” Dizon, a resident of New Jersey told the Daily News from his hospital bed. “I was hoping people were going to help me, but they didn’t … they were just watching and they didn’t get involved. I guess they’re scared.”
Osundairo, who lives at 147-07 249th St., was arrested Tuesday and charged with robbery. It isn’t clear why he was not charged with assault. The incident was not deemed a hate crime.
Osundairo has served prison time before—for attempted robbery. He was paroled in December 2016.

Bums me out this Filipino didn’t know a martial art. Asians not fighting back just adds to the stereotype that they’re push overs and easy to victimize.
Our behavior? Why does someone else’s problem have to be my problem?
“maybe”?! there’s no maybe in there, scumbag is a criminal. But what happened to us all, people who stand around and don’t say a word or move a finger except touching “record” button on their phone?!
OUR behavior is disgusting!
This was a Code 13-90. Any questions?
there was a 76 year old that fought her attacker in California. if he wasn’t going to fight back then he should have given the guy his wallet. at the very least his beating would have been shorter.
the man was 62 years old according to the ny post article and was sucker punched from behind…please show some compassion and try not to victim blame…maybe it’s the scumbag who commited a violent crime against him who is at fault…
He’s going to be out in a couple of weeks, NY is heaven for criminals and now even more with the “fantastic” bail reform.
Maybe fight back? McDonalds doesn’t pay enough for employees to fight your battles.
