Woman fatally struck in early morning collision with MTA bus in Astoria

A woman has died after being struck by an MTA bus at the intersection of 31st Street and Ditmars Boulevard in Astoria on Thursday morning.

The woman, who was approximately 50-60 years of age, was struck while crossing southbound on Ditmars Boulevard and 31st Street at approximately 8:06 a.m. and was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, where she was pronounced dead.

The 48-year-old male bus driver, who had been traveling eastbound along Ditmars Boulevard, remained at the scene.

No arrests were made and investigations by the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad remain ongoing.

The MTA has not yet responded to a request for comment. This is a developing story.

Police from the 107th Precinct in Fresh Meadows are looking for four alleged muggers who jumped a 22-year-old man in Jamaica Hills on the evening of Friday, Jan. 3.

The victim was walking past 179-33 Hillside Ave. at around 5 p.m. when four strangers approached him and attempted to grab his personal belongings. The incident escalated into violence when the man refused to comply, and one of the perpetrators slashed him in the left arm with an unknown sharp object, causing a laceration, police said Sunday. The four men ran off empty-handed toward Midland Parkway.
