Sep. 19, 2023 By Bill Parry

Police from the 103rd Precinct in Jamaica and Transit District 20 are looking for a suspect in a grand larceny case that occurred at the Sutphin Boulevard-Archer Avenue subway station earlier this month.

Police say a 58-year-old woman was waiting for a Manhattan-bound E train when a stranger approached her on the platform at around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. Sept. 10. The crook then forcibly removed the victim’s backpack and ran out of the station in an unknown direction.

The woman was uninjured during the incident and an NYPD spokesman said the backpack contained around $150 in cash, the victim’s credit cards and other personal items.

The NYPD released surveillance video of the suspect as he scoped out the platform.

He has a dark complexion and thin build with dark hair featuring highlighted braids. He was last seen wearing eyeglasses, a white T-shirt, dark pants and dark sneakers.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.

The 103rd Precinct has tallied 402 grand larcenies so far in 2023, 13 fewer than the 423 cases reported at the same point last year, a reduction of 5%, according to the most recent CompStat report.
