Oct. 26, 2023 By Bill Parry

Police from the 111th Precinct in Bayside are looking for the crook who allegedly stole tens of thousands of dollars from a car while its driver was distracted, according to authorities.

A 43-year-old man parked his car at the corner of 43rd Avenue and 214th Place when a stranger in a black Mazda sedan pulled up alongside him just before 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11. While the two motorists were engaged in a conversation a second man slipped into the victim’s car and removed $25,000 from the vehicle and then ran off in an unknown direction. The suspect in the grand larceny investigation was not working in concert with the driver of the Mazda, according to an NYPD spokeswoman.

The crook is described as having a light complexion and is approximately 20 to 30 years of age. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a white baseball cap with the letter “B” on its crown.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.

The 111th Precinct has reported 510 grand larcenies so far in 2023, 16 fewer than the 526 reported at the same point last year, a decline of 3%, according to the most recent CompStat report.
