A 50-year-old cyclist was struck and killed by a MTA bus in Woodside Wednesday night.
The man was riding his bicycle westbound on 31st Avenue when he ran a red light at the intersection with 51st Street and was hit by a Q18 bus around 11:23 p.m., police said.
The bus was heading southbound on 51st Street when the driver struck the cyclist, who was dragged by the bus for a block, until he was dislodged at 32nd Avenue. Responding officers found the man lying on the roadway with severe trauma to his body, police said.
The 50-year-old was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital – Queens, where he was pronounced dead. His identity was not yet released, as officers work to notify his family members.
There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing, according to the police.

Motor vehicles and bikes/scooters clearly cannot co-exist in our streets. Cyclists, etc., need to understand the rules of the road and not conduct themselves as though they own the road. We will never be 100% car free so someone should come up with a proper plan that keeps everyone safe.
All bicyclists run stoplights. Jeopardizing the lives of pedestrians.
Bicycles should be banned in the city.
