Ex-Boyfriend of Queens Sex Worker Charged in Fatal Overdose of Famed Chef Denied Bail

Andrea Zamperoni (NYPD)

March 3, 2021 By Allie Griffin

The ex-boyfriend of an alleged Queens sex worker who was charged for his role in the 2019 fatal overdose death of a Cipriani chef was denied a request for bail Wednesday.

Leslie Lescano, also known as “Kenny” or “Ken Ween,” has been accused of hatching a plan with his sex-worker ex Angelina Barini to lure Andrea Zamperoni to a seedy Elmhurst hostel and rob him.

Barini allegedly slipped Zamperoni a date-rape drug at the hostel– which ultimately killed him–while Lescano was on hand to rob him.

Lescano’s attorney had requested bail for his client due to his heart condition and pacemaker, but a Brooklyn federal court judge denied the request, the New York Daily News reported.

Brooklyn Federal Magistrate Judge Peggy Kuo ruled that Lescano was a danger to the community and a flight risk and was therefore denied bail.

Lescano allegedly hid in the bathroom when Barini and a Zamperoni entered the Kamway Lodge on Aug. 18, 2019. The hostel is just a few blocks away from where the victim lived on 74th Street.

Zamperoni, who was drugged, soon collapsed and died in the hostel room and his body was dumped in a trash can.

Lescano later bought groceries using the chef’s credit cards and even tried to withdraw money from the his account at a casino.

Lescano faces multiple drug distribution and possession charges, which carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. Meanwhile, Barini was charged last month with multiple drug and conspiracy charges–as well as for obstruction, relating to the disposal of Zamperoni’s body.
