Eyeglass retailer Warby Parker to open first Queens location in Long Island City

Eyewear retailer Warby Parker is expanding its footprint in Queens with a new store opening at Court Square in Long Island City.

This marks the brand’s first presence in the borough, with a second location slated to open later this year at the Queens Center Mall in Elmhurst.

Warby Parker, known for its stylish eyewear and comprehensive eye exams, has continued to grow since opening its first store in SoHo in 2013.

The new Queens locations will offer a full selection of sun and optical eyewear, including the latest Summer 2024 and Diamond Cuts collections. Customers will also have access to in-store eye exams.

The new Court Square store, located at 25-30 Jackson Ave., will have a grand opening celebration on Saturday, July 13.

To celebrate the grand opening, shoppers at the Long Island City location will receive a special limited edition tote bag with their purchases. Additionally, Chip City will be present, giving away complimentary cookies to visitors.

As part of Warby Parker’s tradition of celebrating each new store with unique local artwork, the Queens stores will feature designs by New York-based artist Edward Ubiera.

Known for his vibrant, color-blocked palette and geometric designs, Ubiera has created custom illustrations that highlight iconic local elements such as architecture, music, sports and the subway. His artwork will be prominently displayed at both the Long Island City and Queens Center Mall locations.

The chain operates more than 200 stores across the U.S. and Canada and is committed to social responsibility. Through its “Buy a Pair, Give a Pair” program, Warby Parker donates a pair of glasses to someone in need for every pair sold.

Two women shot at Ocean Bay Apartments in Far Rockaway, gunman still at large: NYPD

Police from the 101st Precinct in Far Rockaway are looking for a gunman who shot two women at the Ocean Bay Apartments in Arverne on the night of Saturday, May 10.

The suspect is seen on video surveillance at around 9:35 p.m. approaching the southeast corner of the NYCHA complex at Beach 54th Street and Arverne Boulevard, where he pulled out a handgun and opened fire at a group of people, striking two women before running off. When officers responded to a 911 call of an assault in progress at the complex, which is also called the Oceanside Apartments, they found the two victims: a 34-year-old woman who was shot in both legs and a 32-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her leg. EMS responded to the location and transported the victims to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where they were both listed in stable condition.
