Jackson Heights residents looking to de-clutter this summer, or pick up some new treasures, can come to a local “stop ‘n’ swap” next week.

The Jackson Heights Stop ‘N’ Swap will take place on June 29 at P.S. 69, located at 37-30 78th St. The event will run from noon to 3 p.m. in the schoolyard. Residents can drop off items at the school starting at 10 a.m.

The event provides an opportunity for a wide range of household items to be reused within the community.

The public is invited to bring clean, portable, reusable items to share with those who can use them. However, no one is required to bring an item in order to take something. Residents can show up with a bag and see what’s free for the taking.

Stop ‘N’ Swap items can include books, toys, clothing, houseware and electronics. Furniture and other large items are not accepted.

Any items left over will be donated or recycled. All attendees are required to wear face masks.

The Manhattan-based non-profit GrowNYC is organizing the event with the goal of reducing waste.

GrowNYC estimates that the average city household discards around 2,000 pounds of waste each year. By incorporating reuse events such as stop ‘n’ swap, the group aims to cut back on the amount of waste heading to landfills annually.

The non-profit is looking to hold at least one “stop ‘n’ swap” in each of the city’s 59 community board districts this year.
