Motorist Fatally Struck While Trying to Fix a Flat Tire on the Long Island Expressway in Queens

A 52-year-old man was struck dead while changing a tire on the LIE by the College Point Boulevard exit (GMaps)

A man who was trying to fix a flat tire on the side of the Long Island Expressway in Queens early Monday morning was struck dead by a driver in a Tesla.

Jean Louis, 52, of Cambria Heights, was attempting to fix his tire on the shoulder of the westbound Long Island Expressway—before the College Point Boulevard exit—when he was hit at around 12:10 a.m., according to police.

When police arrived, Louis was lying on the ground with trauma to his body. EMS also responded and transported him to New York-Presbyterian Hospital – Queens, where he was pronounced deceased.

The operator of the Tesla remained on the scene. The NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad is investigating. There have been no arrests.
