Doug Shapiro, candidate for the 29th Council District

Approximately 10 candidates have announced plans to run in the Democratic primary next June for the 29th District Council seat that is currently held by Karen Koslowitz.
Late last month, we spoke to Doug Shapiro, one of the candidates vying for the seat that covers Richmond Hill, Kew Gardens, Forest Hills and Rego Park.
Shapiro is a life-long resident of the 29th Council district and attended New York City public schools, including P.S. 196, Halsey JHS and Stuyvesant. He currently lives in Kew Gardens.
The city council will be under significant change in 2022 due to term limits.
Eleven council members in Queens–including Koslowitz–will be forced to step down at the end of next year due to term limits.
Only Barry Grodenchik, Adrienne Adams, Robert Holden and Francisco Moya — are eligible for another term.
Grodenchik announced earlier this month that he is not seeking reelection.
